Job description

Flood Re is the first of its kind - a joint initiative between the UK Government and Insurers to provide flood cover that is more widely available and affordable. Every insurer that offers home insurance in the UK must pay into the Flood Re Scheme - this Levy raises £135m every year that we use to cover the flood risks in home insurance policies, purchase further reinsurance against catastrophic flooding and to run the Company.

Flood Re will run until 2039 and is tasked with ensuring that the market will then be offering policies with premiums based on actual flood risk. This is a great opportunity to join a respected and highly motivated team.

Purpose

The main purpose of this role is to lead, deliver and support the Flood Re Transition Plan. With the role covering a wide range of transition initiatives to support Flood Re's purpose there is considerable opportunity to influence, contribute and manage transformational change across the Flood insurance industry.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead, understand and manage the Flood Re transition programme and its initiatives, ensuring appropriate internal and external stakeholders are engaged, building relationships along the way and ensuring effective communications occurs across all parties.
  • Provide support and advice to the Board, Executive Committee and the Communications and Transition Director on development of the Transition plan and Flood Re position papers for internal and external use.
  • Work with the Head of Change to deliver transition change programmes and projects where necessary.
  • Build and maintain external relationships with stakeholders across all parts of the UK in the insurance sector, public sector and beyond and leverage this relationship to support Flood Re Transition objectives.
  • Identify policies and initiatives to drive adaptation of the UK's housing stock to make it more resilient to flooding.
  • Attend, represent, and present on behalf of Flood Re at external events and conferences.

Provide support to the wider Flood Re organisation on business led transition projects to include stakeholder management, planning and ensuring the quality of the end deliverable.

Keep abreast and informed of important developments in policy development in relevant areas.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of commissioning and managing projects from third parties, including both the public and the private sectors.
  • Uses initiative to find solutions and approaches problems with curiosity and open mindedness
  • Experience of driving through long term objectives across multiple stakeholders.
  • Intellectually curious, strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; both face to face and written
  • Effective time and project management skills; able to juggle several tasks and conflicting priorities
  • Excellent people and inter-personal skills with experience of interacting and building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Good knowledge or interest in general insurance, flood or water management is desirable.

Risk Responsibilities

As a manager in a First Line risk function, you will continuously identify, monitor, manage and report your risks and controls within agreed risk appetites and tolerances. This will include working with the Risk Team on periodic risk review deep-dives, using the assessment methodology developed by the Risk Team, and ORSA preparation. In addition to the 1st Line management of the risks highlighted within Flood Re's Risk Register, you will also identify and report to the Risk Team on emerging risks, which may have a relevance to Flood Re.

Information Security Responsibilities

As a member of Flood Re, you are expected to foster a security-aware culture through your own actions and behaviour by exercising good judgement, being aware of Information Security risks, compliant with all policies (including but not limited to fair usage and information security), diligent in the completion of Information Security training, mindful of any suspicious activity and proactive in your response to it and immediate reporting of any concerns or issues to the Flood Re IT / infosec team.

Regulatory Responsibilities

As Flood Re is dual regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority, you will be expected to abide by the required regulatory obligations placed on you, as required, depending on your role.

This role is a Conduct Rules role, and Flood Re has designated this role as one that requires involvement in certain aspects of Flood Re's regulated activities. This role is subject to the First Tier Conduct Rules detailed below.
